OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE CANADIAN NUCLEAR INDUSTRY IN EASTERN EUROPE AND SOUTH AFRICA

The nuclear industry has had a long history in Eastern Europe and South Africa, with the first reactors being built in the early 1970s and mid 1970s, respectively. The presentation will begin by providing an overview of the current situation in Eastern Europe with the number of nuclear power plants that are currently operating, under construction, or committed to be constructed. A brief outlook for future growth in each country concerned with nuclear power will be given, including the current status of projects that are proposed or under consideration in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Turkey, and Ukraine. Also, noting Rosatom’s strong presence in the region that has been built over several decades.
A similar overview of South Africa’s current nuclear assets and their future plans will be provided. This will include the power reactors currently in operation and the plans for a new nuclear build.
Also, included will be a review of the research reactors currently operating, under construction, or planned in both regions.
