Abstract

Continued operation of NPP is desirable for efficiency of the plant as long as safety and economics are secured. Since Korea cannot solely rely on natural resources which leads to high dependence of foreign energy resources, continued operation is crucial for Korea economy. However, public acceptance is still one of the biggest issues for NPP’s Continued Operation. Hence, public acceptance will be great challenge of future project implementation.

This presentation shows how Korean regulatory system and continued operation process are configured. It also presents what we did to improve the plant safety and how we made efforts to gain public acceptance from local communities regarding continued operation. And the presentation will be ended with a couple of lessons learned and latest issues to implement in next continued operation project.
