Abstract

While being an important actor in the energy market with major constraints, Nuclear in Europe, in general and in Romania particularly, faces unprecedented challenges due to the evolution of the energy price, due to the increasing difficulties of creating and maintaining a solid and stable workforce, due to the fact that being the only CANDU station in Europe doesn’t help us at all,  and last but not least, due to the safety improvements required by the Regulators on behalf of public, especially after Fukushima event.  This presentation will try to give you the flavour of how the opportunity that nuclear stand in the row of clean energy producers, can counterbalance the aforementioned challenges, how Cernavoda is dealing with that and what are the provisioned steps forward to achieve a 30-year operation first cycle for Unit 1, a successful refurbishment project followed by a second 30-year operation cycle of Cernavoda 1.
