ABSTRACT The primary heat transport (PHT) system circulates pressurized heavy water coolant (D2O) through the reactor fuel channels to remove heat produced by fission in the uranium fuel. The heat is carried by the reactor coolant to the steam generators, where it is transferred to light water to produce steam. The coolant leaving the steam generators is returned to the inlet of the fuel channels. The reliability and integrity of PHT Components and Feeder pipes are evaluated by Inspections and NDE technology. Failure of PHT system has direct effect on cooling and performance of the reactor. Efficient Ageing Management is an essential activity of CANDU® power plant operators. PHT System being a safety related system therefore subjected to in-service inspections, to detect, monitor, prevent and/or mitigate ageing to maintain plant safety and availability throughout the plant life. In aging management and reliability of Primary Heat Transport System and Feeders, among other factors, inspections and effective in-service surveillance are the essential aspect for ensuring the long-term safety and reliability of nuclear power plants (NPPs). This literature survey presents the methodology towards aging management and reliability of Primary Heat Transport System and Feeders of CANDU® Power Plants. “CANDU® is a registered trade mark of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited”.
