Abstract

Bruce Power has been using Damp Scrape process for obtaining pressure tube samples for monitoring deuterium uptake. Damp Scrape process requires the use of ice plugs and Isolation Plugs to isolate and drain the target fuel channel for scraping. This process can challenge nuclear safety as well as exposing personnel to open fuel channel work. Consequently, Bruce Power embarked on a project in conjunction with Kinectrics to design, manufacture, test and implement a wet scrape tool that combined both body of tube and rolled joint capability into one tool with dose reduction to personnel as the primary goal.
