Location:
Saskatoon, Canada
Session Title:
Plenary III: Small Modular Reactors

Authors:
Dan Ingersoll (Director of Research Collaboration, NuScale)

Abstract

NuScale Power, LLC is developing a new commercial reactor design that is elegantly simple, affordable, and adaptable. In progress for the past 12 years, the NuScale design seeks to maximize the intrinsic safety and plant resilience features that can only be achieved by small capacity reactors, with a high level of modularity that allows the plant to be commercially competitive. The result is a small modular reactor (SMR) design that offers an entirely new paradigm in nuclear plant deployment. A brief overview of the NuScale technology will be provided, including its history, design features, plant layout, safety benefits, and testing program to support licensing.
