Abstract

OPG is implementing a modified 37-element (37M) fuel bundle design for use in the Darlington reactors as a means of mitigating the degradig safety margins arising due to reactor aging. The 37M fuel bundle exhibits improved Critical Heat Flux (CHF) performance and thereby improve the Critical Channel Power (CCP) characteristic of the fuel in a Darlington reactor. The design change is relatively minor and only affects the dimensions of the fuel central element.
