2017 Week 16

April 14th through 17th was a wonderful and restful long weekend for the celebration of Easter. Now we are back to the usually exciting daily routine.

Dr. Aman Usmani, member of the CNS Council, and current Chair of the Organizing Committee of the CNS Candu Maintenance & Nuclear Components Conference (CMNCC) has been selected by the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers (CSME) Honours and Awards Committee to become a CSME Fellow (FCSME). The award will be presented on May 29, 2017 at the Opening Reception of CANCAM Conference to be held on UVic's campus, Victoria, BC. Congratulations Aman.

The CNS senior leadership met one-on-one with the Executive of BWXT on Monday April 10th. The CNS team was led by the Immediate Past President (Paul Thompson). Other members of the team were Ben Rouben, Jacques Plourde and Jason Sharpe. The BWTX team was led by the CEO (John MacQuarrie). A number of topics that will see better cooperation between the two organizations were discussed. John MacQuarrie promised to ensure that his senior team endorses and supports employees becoming CNS members. Thanks John.

On Wednesday April 12th, I paid a formal (official) visit to the CNS Sheridan Park Branch, where I made a presentation titled “THE CANADIAN NUCLEAR SOCIETY (then, now, and hence”. Present at the event were members and non-members of CNS. Also present were some top management of SNC Lavalin Nuclear including the Director of Marketing Strategy and Business Development (Mr. Justin Hannah) who gave a presentation on “The Global Nuclear Market and Importance of External Relations”. The event was well attended
