Nuclear Fuel Technology and Development Award

PURPOSE OF THE AWARD:
This award recognizes an outstanding contribution made in nuclear fuel technology and development to better sustainable nuclear development and energy production.

AWARD DESCRIPTION:
The CANDU Fuel Technologies Award was established in 2013 by the Canadian Nuclear Society.  The recipient will be presented with a plaque during the International Conference on CANDU Fuel.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The nominee has made significant impact and demonstrated substantial achievements in nuclear fuel development and technology, over his/her long-standing career in this industry.  These achievements include major contributions to historical and pioneering fuel designs, providing important solutions to fuel technology problems, carrying out state-of-the-art research in fuel performance and fuel safety, novel and extensive fuel experimentation, fuel performance/fuel safety code development, and leadership in the field. The nominations will be evaluated in terms of:
(i) significance or impact of the contribution;
(ii) reputation or standing of the recipient in the domestic and international fuel community;
(iii) mentorship of junior scientists and engineers; and
(iv) length of career in the nuclear industry.

The nomination package should include:
1) one nomination letter describing the individual’s achievements;
2) supporting letters discussing the individual’s contributions.
