Presenter: Michael Valore, Sr. Director – Advanced Reactor Commercialization
Energy Systems, Westinghouse Electric Company
Summary: The presentation will cover Westinghouse Electric Co. development of the eVinci™ Microreactor which provides grid resiliency for strategic infrastructure, delivers power for remote applications and supports power for space program needs. At the heart of the reactor technology are sodium heat pipes. The heat pipes passively transfer heat via sodium metal phase change. The heat pipes replace the complex high pressure primary coolant systems necessary for most other high temperature reactor designs with a safe, low pressure, simple system that has minimal moving parts. This design enables a compact, transportable design that is simple to operate and minimizes on site construction.
