NPIC Introduction and the Physics Calculations of HFETR

Speaker:      Lei Zhu, Research Assistant (NPIC)
Date/Time:   Feb. 28th, 1 pm – 2pm.
Location:      ETB-535 (Engineering Technology Building), McMaster University.

Summary
Mr. Zhu will speak about his work with the Nuclear Power Institute of China (NPIC). The various facilities at NPIC will be covered, at which point he will discuss his work on a computer program that he is working on that models the neutron flux in the High Flux Engineering Test Reactor at NPIC. He will finish the lecture by talking about possible extensions of his work, and where it could go in the future.

Biography
Lei Zhu completed his undergraduate degree in Nuclear Reactor Engineering in 2010. During his time as an undergrad, Lei took courses including Nuclear Reactor Physics, Radiation Dosimetry and Protection, Reactor Safety Analysis, and Nuclear Electronics. His final dissertation was entitled “A Computational Study of PWR Core Fuel Management”. After completing his bachelor’s degree, Lei went on to graduate studies at the NPIC, completing his Master’s Degree in 2013. His thesis was entitled “The Development and Application of the High Flux Engineering Test Reactor 3D Core Neutron Transport Program”. After graduating, Lei worked as a research assistant at NPIC, continuing his computational work and publishing two papers. Currently, Lei is a visiting lecturer at McMaster University under Dr. Adriaan Buijs’ supervision.

Coffee and Tea will be provided at the seminar, courtesy of the CNS. Please contact sharpejr@mcmaster.ca if you have any questions.
