CNS Sheridan Park Branch invites you to participate in the following virtual presentation:

Title:   How Innovation in Candu Reactor Life Extension is Reducing Worker Dose and Outage Duration

Date/time:   Thursday September 29, 2022,  3:30 PM to 4:30 PM

Speaker:   Justin Alizadeh, Project Director, Candu Energy Inc., Member of the SNC-Lavalin Group

Summary:  Candu reactors around the world undergo a life extension process at the mid-point in overall reactor operation. During this process, the fuel channels in the core of the reactor are replaced, and feeder piping that connects these channels to the steam generators is replaced as well. These components are highly radioactive and require a very specialized set of tools and processes to replace. Recent advances in how the fuel channels are removed and how labour is trained and deployed on these projects has resulted in significant worker dose and schedule duration reductions.

This presentation will describe these improvements, how they were developed and how they can be applied generically Candu life extensions as well as large scale Nuclear projects.

Registration: Registration is free but required; we welcome CNS members, students and interested members of the broader community.
