Investments support Canada’s ongoing Tier 1 Nuclear Status

The Canadian Nuclear Society thanks the Federal Government for its continued confidence in its nuclear industry as expressed recently through its financial support for the evolution of CANDU, the deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in Ontario, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and Alberta and the development of advanced reactor fuel cycles.  This package of measures will secure Canada’s role as a tier 1 nuclear nation and enable its nuclear industry to support Canada in its energy security and clean energy missions while simultaneously creating export opportunities and the skilled trades jobs needed to support them.

These insightful investments pave the way for Canada to offer a modern version of its iconic CANDU reactor to nations that do not wish to rely on enriched nuclear fuels, to be the first to develop experience in construction and operation in the burgeoning SMR market and potentially to lead the world in development of nuclear technologies for the future. The Canadian Nuclear Society is excited to provide a platform for discussion of these important issues at its annual conference to be held in Toronto in June this year and to continually provide support in the education of the public about nuclear issues.
