Site Access

Please note that access to Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, Chalk River campus requires site clearance. Each morning, registrants will be required to check-in at the site’s main gate to receive a visitor’s badge. A reminder to all participants to bring a copy of your government issued ID provided in your registration details.  

There will be NO REGISTRATIONS ON-SITE. Please register in advance for the conference to allow time for organizers to inform security about your attendance.

ACCOMODATIONS & VENUE

The CNS – MCFD 2024 Conference is being sponsored by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and hosted at the Chalk River Laboratories in Chalk River, Ontario, Canada. We are very excited to utilize this beautiful space, including the campus’ new Science Collaboration Centre. Participants will also have an opportunity to tour some of the CNL sites on the final day of the conference.  

Upon registration, attendees can take advantage of our relationship with the local TownePlace Suites Petawawa Hotel. You will be able to book your hotel through their website or by phone, details found on the MCDF 2024 website Accommodation Page.

Shuttle Buses and Drivers

Each day, there will be morning and evening shuttle buses to take guests to and from the TownePlace Suites Petawawa Hotel and CNL site. A schedule for transportation will be announced shortly. If you choose to drive to and from CNL, please note that there is onsite parking, however, you will need to board a shuttle to access the main site. Please make note of shuttle times on the schedule, which are to be announced.

Chemistry Course Lecturer

A Chemistry Course will be held on the first day of the conference September 23rd, 2024. This is an introductory to intermediate level course that highlights the synergy between plant chemistry and material corrosion and degradation. The focus is on CANDU systems, where the objectives of chemistry control, chemistry best practices, corrosion issues and outcomes, and corrosion monitoring and mitigation strategies are covered. BANQUET NIGHT

A Conference Banquet will be held at the local Petawawa Golf Club on the second night of the event, September 24th. Each registered member and their significant others are invited to attend a night of delicious food, drinks, and mingling with speakers, organizing members, and all other attendees. Please provide any dietary restrictions or allergies you or your plus one(s) may have, and we would be happy to accommodate these changes.

CNL Tour

Please join us for a site tour of the Chalk River Laboratories’ campus on the morning of September 26th, 2024. With its rich history as the birth place for nuclear science and technology in Canada, Canada’s national nuclear laboratory is now helping to shape Canada’s clean energy future, supported by a $1.2 billion revitalization project. This half-day tour is an opportunity to learn about the history, the research and infrastructure projects underway at CNL.

Participation is complimentary; however, space is limited. Please ensure to check the related box during registration to confirm your interest. You will receive confirmation of your site tour at the reception desk on September 23rd.

THE SOCIETY FOR THE PRESERVATION OF CANADA’S NUCLEAR HERITAGE – Tour

Apart from the MCFD 2024 Conference, book a tour of the Society for the Preservation of Canada’s Nuclear Heritage (Canadian Nuclear Heritage Museum).
